TTASA Held its First Drag racing competition series
for the 2008 year with the co-operation of ASPL & SPL.
With the expertise of Sheldon Bissessar and the Partytime/Chevron
team, a lot of work was put in to the proper preparation of the
track.Traction was not a problem, and the difference between
Wallerfield and Camden is "Chalk and Cheese" according to Sheldon.
Spectators were treated to spectacular battles as: fastest rail,
RB20s, first street car to run single digits, fastest sr20.
But highlighting the event even moreso, was young 17 year old Misha
Luke, Trinidad's first female rail driver and youngest.
History in the making as she probably is the first
female rail
driver for the Caribbean as well.
Only after two days of practice, she ran a 9.91 pass with problems
and going sideways.
Not only that, but the record for the fastest time ever put down on
the Camden track was broken by Rishi Kannick.
Shattering the 10.1 second run by mint cars and doing a 7.6 second
pass. Not only that but his driving skill was proven after
not driving the rail for over a year and still doing a perfect
reaction time of 0.500 seconds.
Flambo also put down his personal best of 9.4 on the Camden raceway
but broke his engine as he was on the starting grid with the LLumar
Rail.
Missing his target of a 9.9 Second Pass, Aaron Dowridge in his
Yellow R32 Skyline clocked a personal best of 10.08 seconds winning
the fastest street car category.
Andre Lewis in the Dodge Charger also ran in 10 seconds however and
copped the fastest V8 car.
Running personal bests also was Ian in the Black Charmant "the
Butcher" with 11.3 and the Notorious Skyline with 11.08. The battle
of the RB20s is on as we are yet to see between the two and Mad cow
(11.1 best ET), which is the first RB20 to enter the 10 seconds
bracket.
Competing for fastest SR20 were Jerry in the Visions Tint 120y,
Dezzie in his black S14 silvia, Singh in the Boost Factory S14 and
Chester in his van.
The Ready Racing crew also did well, as Randy in the "trinidad 3rd
Gen" ran 12.1 and Steven in the orange and black second gen doing
his best of 11.9.
Rajesh Ramjattan in the green ke30 corolla also did remarkably well
proving himself after not running for over 9 months in the 12
seconds category but at the end of the day, it was Dereck Murray in
the Red Subaru that won the 12 seconds bracket.
ALso competing were Gregory "chiney" in the silver bullet civic,
Brian Franco, drag racing veteran in his L28 powered Escort, as well
as Tam in the Subaru and R34 and R33 Skyline.
With upgrades being done to the track and to competitors cars, the
introduction of several new drivers and the return of the older
drivers, and bracket rivals, a lot of action is guaranteed at the
next event. Be there! |
